On Sunday myself and three Naunton members, Roger Downes, Steve Shepherd and Chris Downes made the short journey to Oxford to play in the Frilford Heath Pro-Am. The weather was great and we found the 'red' course to be in excellent condition.
Starting from the 10th tee we found the going quite tough on our 1st nine holes as we struggled to 2 a score of two over par. With the format being the best two nett scores out of the four to count we were quite disappointed with this! With there also being an individual Professionals score I was sitting on four over par after nine as my putter was misbehaving a little. For me the front nine was a struggle after a minor heart attack when I nearly trod on a snake on our 2nd hole! And for those of you that know me snakes are my biggest phobia!
We all gave ourselves a talking to and vowed to improve on the back nine. I am pleased to say that we all did. The team came back in 7 under par for a total of 5 under and a very credible tied 16th place out of 48. My back nine was also much improved with a little run of consecutive birdies which meant I came back in 34 (2 under) for a 2 over par 74 and a tie for 13 place … a bogey on our final hole costing me a top 10 finish and some prize money!!
Pro-Am's are a great day out golfing for all concerned and I enjoy playing with a variety of members in these events. I hope the members also enjoy playing with me! Next Thursday, both Peter and myself are playing with three members at the lovely Ross on Wye golf club so look out for the results in future newsletter.
Tee Up For Tots Pro Am
On August 4th a good friend of mine is hosting a Pro-Am at Enmore Park in Somerset in aid of a very worthwhile charity "Tee Up For Tots" which support young children and their families in Somerset. He and PGA Regional Secretary, Glenn Ross have recently had children born with challenges to face and their families have received support from the two charities.
Andrew and wife Rachael's second child, Logan was born on 10th November 2013 with a Cleft Lip and Palate. Andrew, Rachael, their daughter Ebony and of course young Logan will all be supported through the process by CLAPA and the South West Cleft Team. Logan will undertake 2 surgeries during the early years of his life in order to minimize the impact of his cleft lip and palate and then potentially many more over the next 15 to 20 years depending on the outcome.
Harry James Ross was born on 10th May 2013 at just 2lb 10oz. After not growing successfully during the latter stages of his time in the womb, he was delivered by emergency caesarean section at Musgrove Park Hospital, Taunton. He spent the first 6 weeks of his life under the fantastic watchful care of the Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit who provided fantastic care for both Harry and his family.
I will be playing in the above event and I am in need of three amateurs to play in my team on this charity day. The cost is £65 each and will include the following:-
18 Hole Pro-Am tournament (1 PGA Pro / 3 Amateurs) at a first class parkland golf course, Enmore Park Golf Club, Somerset .
Superb team prize table with multiple spot prizes and special auction.
Coffee & bacon roll on arrival.
2 course post round team meal.
Trick shot show.
All monies raised are to support the PGA Regional Captain's Charities: CLAPA (Cleft Lip and Palate Association & South West Cleft Team & Musgrove Park Hospital, Somerset Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
